A teenager from Flint, Michigan is sharing her story about a close call in hopes of keeping other kids and teens safe from a new kidnapping scheme. Ashley Hardacre was leaving her job at the mall the day after Valentine’s Day when she noticed something odd in the parking lot.
Ashley’s Story
As she walked to her car, the 19-year-old noticed several cars that seemed to be moving around the parking lot. When she reached her car, she saw something thrown onto her windshield: a blue flannel shirt.
The shirt had been wrapped around the windshield wiper blades on Ashley’s car. She remembered the suspicious-looking cars driving around the parking lot and had a sinking feeling.
Ashley didn’t stop to take the shirt off. Instead, she jumped in her car and drove out of the parking lot with the shirt still wrapped around her wiper blades. Once she reached a safe place, she stopped and removed the shirt.
Ashley shared her scary experience on her Facebook page. The post has been shared over 100,000 times since being posted.
The local police saw Ashley’s Facebook post. They don’t currently have an explanation, but it seems to most that the shirt tied around Ashley’s windshield wipers could have been a method of distracting her. If Ashley had taken the time to unwrap the shirt and remove it from her car, she could have been kidnapped or mugged.
If you see something on your windshield, don’t take the time to remove it. Get in your car and drive. When you get to a safe place, you can stop to take it off!
