Dramatic dashcam footage captured a small private aircraft crash-landing onto a busy street in Mukilteo, Washington Tuesday afternoon. (scroll down for video)
The incident resulted in a massive fireball exploding into the sky, terrifying drivers stopped at the intersection of Harbour Pointe Boulevard SW east of Cyrus Way.
According to investigators, the pilot took off from Everett’s Paine Field but suddenly lost power to his engine. As his altitude dropped, he decided an emergency landing on the street was safer than attempting to return to the airport.
As the plane descended, however, it clipped a power line and street light, igniting a fuel cell which prompted the massive in-air explosion captured on video.
Miraculously, the pilot and his passenger walked away without serious injuries, which some say is a testament to his piloting skills.
Ron Cohen, a resident from the area, who also happens to be a pilot, said, “It looks like he did an incredible job.”
Some cars were damaged in the accident, including one driver who claims her vehicle was struck by the plane’s wing.
Amanda Hayes, one driver at the scene, described the massive fireball exploding right above her head as she sat in a van:
