If you have Campbell’s soup cans at home, you’ll want to check your cupboards. The company has issued a recall for over 3,600 cans of soup. The recall is a result of “misbranding and undeclared allergens.” The recalled cans contain milk, a popular allergen, but milk isn’t listen as an ingredient on the label.
Campbell’s Soup Recall
The soup is considered a Class 1 recall because of the potential danger that consumers face. A recall is labeled Class 1 if “there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.” For consumers with an allergy to milk, those consequences are very real.
Campbell became aware of the problem on April 20th. They were notified that multiple customers had complained that the label on the soup didn’t match the actual ingredients. Cans that were labeled “Campbell’s Homestyle Healthy Request Chicken with Whole Grain Pasta,” actually contained “Campbell’s Homestyle Healthy Request Italian-Style Wedding Spinach & Meatballs in Chicken Broth.” Not only were consumers winding up with something they didn’t intend to buy, the ingredients were also different in a big way. One of the soups contains milk.
Check Your Campbell’s Soup Cans
If anyone in your household has a milk allergy, make sure you check your Campbell’s soup cans. The product to look for is any 18.6-oz can of “Campbell’s Homestyle Healthy Request Chicken with Whole Grain Pasta.” The Best By date on the affected cans will read Feb. 13, 2019. It’s located on the bottom of the can.
The cans of soup that are part of the recall also have “EST 4R” printed on the bottom. They were sent to stores in Florida. These cans actually contain “Campbell’s Homestyle Italian-Style Wedding Spinach & Meatballs in Chicken Broth.” If you or a family member experience an allergic reaction after eating the mislabeled soup, visit a health care professional immediately.
