Parents are furious after disturbing photos and videos surfaced online showing a popular baby’s food prep device infested with “mould.”

“I was disgusted to see the mould that was inside,” said Daniella McNeil, a 23-year-old mother, “I have been feeding my baby her bottle from this machine since she was six weeks old.”

The Tommee Tippee “Perfect Prep” device, which sells for approximately £120, operates by combining hot and cold water together at the right temperature for serving babies’ milk.

However, numerous parents have taken to social media to expose what appears to be “mould” lining the inner tubes/parts of the “Perfect Prep”:

The company behind the product, Tommee Tippee, has come out to denounce the claims, saying that the substance in their devices is not mould, but instead a harmless “carbon” build up.

Still, this explanation seems like too little, too late for some parents:

“I felt like crying to know that I had been feeding her from mouldy tubes when I put my trust in such a well known top name brand,” said Daniella.

She is also convinced that dirty device is the reason her 15-week-old daughter has been consistently ill.

Numerous other parents have come to the same conclusion, as reported by the Daily Mail:

Ms Soulsby claimed her daughter Erin, five months, had suffered with flu-like symptoms and had to be treated in hospital because she refused to feed while she was using the machine. But she says Erin has been back on six bottles a day since she stopped using the equipment.

In a video captured by Ms. Soulsby, she reveals the extent of the “mould” in the Tommee Tippee device, exclaiming, “every single pipe is riddled with mould! I’m absolutely disgusted…”

In the face of growing public backlash, the company has issued this statement:

We were very concerned by these findings and started an immediate investigation. Until they’ve been examined, it’s impossible to determine the exact cause.

However, our preliminary investigation has found two things. Firstly, the build-up we’ve seen so far we suspect is carbon residue and not mould. Carbon is a harmless, inert bi-product of the filtration process.

Secondly, some parents have told us they’ve used ordinary water jug filters instead of the Tommee Tippee filters.

Standard filters do not contain the ultra-filtration membrane needed to remove bacteria, plus are more likely to release carbon into the system.

Although we can’t be certain until we’ve received back and examined more machines, it is possible these factors are linked to what people are seeing. However, the investigation will continue until we’ve found answers.

Numerous other parents have suggested that, after using the Perfect Prep device, their babies quickly became sick.

Jemma Lindsay, a mother, claims that her baby “is always bad. In and out of the hospital with chest infections and coughs.”
